February 9th Update

As we begin our 3rd Quarter at Agape School, we would like to thank our faithful volunteer teachers for all they have done the 1st Semester:
*Health 1st Quarter – Pam Patterson for teaching Relationships/Values
*Health 2nd Quarter - Diane Purcell for teaching this class, and the Geneva Lake Women’s Association, who donated the curriculum for this segment of Health called Drug and Health Awareness. If you know members of this Association, please thank them for all of their efforts to raise the funds for this valuable curriculum which they have donated to Agape School.
*Gym 1st Quarter – Kelly taught volleyball, and was assisted by Angel Patterson and Leslie Kane at times.
*Gym 2nd Quarter – Leslie Kane instructed the girls in Dance, as well as a few other valuable physical education opportunities.
*Photography – Leslie Kane spent a great deal of time sharing and teaching the girls about a variety of aspects of photography, and she donated all of the materials for this class. It was quite a learning experience.
*Life Skills – Cooking by Sandy Heinitz is a favorite class with the girls, as that means there is always something good to eat! Sandy taught this class 1st Quarter, and donated everything the girls needed.
*Life Skills – Job Preparation Skills was taught by Mary Ann Kahl, and the girls were blessed with an assortment of supplies by Mary Ann to help them through this class. It was invaluable for them to have this time to learn about preparing for their future jobs. To wrap up the 9 weeks, Mary Ann arranged for a surprise trip to Sandy’s Upscale Consignment (Clothing and Accessories) in Walworth, where the girls were given their final exam for this class – they had to pick out and model an appropriate outfit to work in a business casual environment. In addition, Sandy donated $10 for the girls to go shopping! There were squeals of delight as they went out the door – that has to be a first time for such a final exam!

Not to be forgotten are those teachers who are continuing on into the next semester:
*Pastor Tom Hilker from Calvary Community Church is doing an awesome job of helping the girls progress with their musical skills. Watch for information about upcoming events!
*Dee McBride – Art and Water Aerobics (gym) – Dee is such a blessing to this ministry as she lovingly works with the girls each week on a variety of art experiences/projects. And now she has enthusiastically agreed to teach them water aerobics at The Abbey.

What a fabulous start to the school year; as always, it is amazing to watch the transformation God is working through these girls.
